Five stages between your tap and your glass

Each cartridge has one job and protects the stage after it.

The five filtration stages of the reverse osmosis system

  1. Sediment filter

    Sand, rust and grit

    A pleated cartridge catches particles first, so they never reach the stages that follow.

  2. Carbon filter I

    Chlorine, taste and smell

    Activated carbon takes out most of the chlorine that makes tap water taste and smell flat.

  3. Carbon filter II

    What the first carbon stage missed

    A second pass removes leftover chlorine and organic compounds, which protects the membrane.

  4. Reverse osmosis membrane

    Dissolved solids and heavy metals

    Pressure pushes water through a very fine membrane that reduces dissolved solids, heavy metals and many other contaminants.

  5. Post-carbon polish

    Final taste

    A last carbon stage before the tap leaves the water tasting clean.

Common questions

What does the system include?

Five filtration stages, a white 12-litre storage tank, a quality tap and a full installation kit.

Is installation included?

The kit has everything an installer needs. Professional installation, servicing and support are available on request at an extra cost.

Where does it fit, and how much space do I need?

It sits under your kitchen sink, with the tap mounted on the sink or counter. We check the space and connections when we visit for installation.

Does it use a lot of water?

Reverse osmosis sends some water to the drain to carry away what the membrane filters out. How much depends on your water pressure and quality. We can explain what to expect at your home.

What if the water is cut off?

You still have water on tap. The 12-litre tank stays full of purified water, so when the supply to your home is cut you can keep filling glasses and kettles until the tank runs low. Once the supply returns, the tank refills by itself.

Will it work during load shedding?

The tank holds 12 litres of purified water, so you can draw from it when the power is off. Message us if you'd like to know whether your water pressure calls for a booster pump.

Does it remove bacteria and viruses?

The membrane is a very fine barrier, but a home system isn't a guarantee of microbiological safety. If your water comes from a borehole, tank or other untreated source, message us about extra treatment.

How often do the cartridges need replacing?

See the schedule above. Sediment filters come first, and the membrane lasts longest.
